2019 Impact Report

2019 Impact Report

Dear Liberty Hill Supporter,

I hope you are taking care of yourselves and your families during this time of unimaginable upheaval.

In the midst of this crisis, I think it’s important to take a moment to reflect on the significance of our work and its impact on the lives of people across Los Angeles. Now more than ever we must fight to ensure that no ground is lost in the movement for equity and justice due to the instability of the current moment.

Below you will find a link to Liberty Hill’s Impact Report, which details some of the hard-fought progress Liberty Hill Foundation and our partners—including you—have made over the past year on everything from rent control to reducing youth incarceration and stopping neighborhood oil drilling.

The realities of the global COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on our daily lives have been stark. From the tragic losses of life—and our sense of normalcy—to the crushing financial blows, the impact of this crisis has touched every community in America.

But we know that those who live in communities most impacted by systemic oppression are at an even greater risk of being left behind during a crisis like this one. Our grantees and partners are quickly adapting their organizing strategies and working tirelessly to secure the rights of tenants to stay in their homes without fear of eviction, to release nonviolent youth from juvenile halls where the virus can easily spread, and to ensure the health and safety of people experiencing homelessness.

This work continues because it is essential.

I hope the success and stories of the movement leaders in this Impact Report will inspire you to keep the fires of equity and justice burning during these uncertain and challenging times.

At its core Liberty Hill has always been a community of people coming together to make change—a Home for Progressive Los Angeles.

With our dedicated and loyal community by our side, Liberty Hill and our partners will continue to support the critical grassroots organizing work that is at the heart of our ability to ensure the change we seek becomes a reality.

Thank you for partnering with us.

In Solidarity,

Shane Murphy Goldsmith
